The fact that it could perfectly be used to censor free speech by using copyright provisions as a pretext. Such censorship can be political or commercial or both. Indeed, it has already happened, as in the case of Oliver Hotham, a British student journalist who in 2013 interviewed an anti-gay group and posted the video of the interview on his blog. The antigay group did not like the negative public reaction to such exposure and used American copyright laws to demand that Hotham removes the video from his webpage because they “owned their answers to the interview” and Hotham had to right to post them without their permission. SOPA included and expanded such over-encompassing copyright restrictions and would have facilitated such abuses. They threatened Hotham with litigation unless he complied.
How do the details in the passage most support the central idea? The details emphasize Christopher Columbus’s role in spreading sugar to the New World. The details explain how Venetian and Muslim middlemen were able to control the sugar trade. The details compare Spanish and Portuguese sugar plantations to those of Muslim farmers. The details describe how Spanish and Portuguese explorations helped expand the sugar trade.

The details in the passage describe how Spanish and Portuguese explorations helped expand the sugar trade. They did this by establishing sugar plantations on conquered islands and spreading sugar cane plants to the New World. The correct option is D.
The correct answer is: The details describe how Spanish and Portuguese explorations helped expand the sugar trade. The passage provides a detailed explanation of how Spanish and Portuguese sailors explored and conquered islands like the Canary Islands and the Azores. They established sugar plantations on these islands, which were sometimes staffed by slaves purchased from Africa. Additionally, Christopher Columbus's role in spreading sugar to the New World by carrying sugar cane plants from the Canary Islands further illustrates how these explorations expanded the sugar trade.
The complete question is:
In the 1400s, Spain and Portugal were competing to explore down the coast of Africa and find a sea route to Asia. That way, they could have the prized Asian spices they wanted without having to pay high prices to Venetian and Muslim middlemen. Spanish and Portuguese sailors searching for that sea route conquered the Canary Islands and the Azores. Soon they began building Muslim-style sugar plantations on the islands, some of them staffed by slaves purchased from nearby Africa. One sailor came to know these islands particularly well because he traded in "white gold"—sugar. And then, as he set off on his second voyage across the sea to what he thought was Asia, he carried sugar cane plants from Gomera, one of the Canary Islands, with him on his ship. His name was Christopher Columbus. The details describe how Spanish and Portuguese explorations helped expand the sugar trade.

correct two errors VOTED BOSTONS BEST RESTARAUNT THREE YEARS IN A ROW!
Hello there! Here are some changes you can make to the text:
Add an apostrophe in "BOSTONS". The restaurant is in Boston, meaning in a sense, Boston owns it. Also, there is only one Boston that the restaurant is in, so add an apostrophe between the N and the S.
BOSTONS ----> BOSTON'S
The second error is the spelling of "RESTARAUNT". The placement of the U should be after the first A, not the second one.
RESTARAUNT ----> RESTAURANT
here is the text with the revisions: VOTED BOSTON'S BEST RESTAURANT THREE YEARS IN A ROW!
I hope this helped you and have a great rest of your day! :D
The corrected statement is "Voted Boston's Best Restaurant three years in a row!" with the inclusion of an apostrophe for possession and the correct spelling of 'restaurant'.
Explanation:There are two errors in the statement "VOTED BOSTONS BEST RESTARAUNT THREE YEARS IN A ROW!" that need to be corrected. The errors are a missing apostrophe and a misspelling. The corrected statement should read: "Voted Boston's Best Restaurant three years in a row!" The apostrophe is needed in Boston's to show possession, indicating that the restaurant belongs to Boston. Also, Restaurant is the correct spelling of the word. Adding punctuation at the end of the sentence gives it a finished and proper look, so an exclamation point is used here to maintain the enthusiasm of the original statement.

The correct answer is: Option D. speaking without any expression. Because that shows insecurity while speaking.
The correct answer is D. Speaking without any expression.
Explanation
Public speaking skills are a set of human expression skills that allow a person to perform effectively in communication in front of groups of people, for example, speaking with clear and concise speech, having good body expression, tone adequate voice, speaks at a moderate speed in which the public understands the message you want to give, among others. Therefore, what needs to be changed to make your public speaking skills more effective is to speak without any expression because the speaker's expression contributes to the public connecting with the message that is being transmitted. Also, the lack of expression affects negatively the speech by reducing the audience interest and attention. So, the correct answer is D. Speaking without any expression.

How do the ants prepare for a mass crossing of the moat?
A.) They gather leaves to make boats.
B.) They crawl across on the clods of dirt.
C.) They fill the moat with bodies of dead ants.
D.) They wait for the soldier ants to attack the guards.
Thanks for posting. I hadn't thought of it before.
The quick answer to this is that they gather leaves to make boats. As a science major, I'm a little doubtful this would work. Those ants covered acres and acres and their size though relatively small, were huge compared to other ants. The surface tension of water with a leaf might be enough to accommodate 20 ants, but that was a spit in the bucket.
Further, this implies that the ants were discriminating enough to stop eating the vegetation (which is the central conflict of the story) and decide that they had to forestall their appetite so they had leaves to cross. Even if they were capable of such higher lever mental abilities, there likely were not enough leaves around to accomplish the crossing.

A tree-toad white, a fish-belly white figurative language
idiom because its not being for real.
The student's question involves understanding the use of figurative language in literature, where descriptive and imaginative expressions help create vivid images and convey deeper meaning beyond literal words.
The question pertains to the use of figurative language in various texts where the phrases "a tree-toad white, a fish-belly white" and others like "the red body in the green pond" or "the fire-bellied toad... that is toxic" involve comparisons, imagery, or descriptions that are not meant to be taken literally. These figurative expressions are used to draw vivid pictures or to convey notions that go beyond the mere literal meaning of words. Through these creative literary tools, writers can paint more compelling scene imaginings, such as comparing the whiteness of a toad to that of a fish's belly, or using a strong color contrast to highlight the presence of a toxic fire-bellied toad.
For example, 'the fire-bellied toad has bright coloration on its belly' uses vivid descriptive language to enhance the mental image of the toad and its environment. This creates a strong visual impression that the toad's coloring serves as a warning sign, which is a symbolic representation of its toxicity, rather than a straightforward statement.

How does Napoleon’s questioning of the pigs demonstrate the author’s purpose of reflecting reality? It shows similarities with Stalin's Great Purge and reveals how dictators use fear to control people. It shows how some animals are capable of using nonviolent tactics to gain power over others. It shows how leaders blame others for the problems of the society they lead and punish them accordingly. It shows how both Napoleon and Stalin used promises of a better life to take control of a group.
The correct answer is: " It shows similarities with Stalin's Great Purge and reveals how dictators use fear to control people"
Napoleon would make no sense unless we know that it is the mimesis of Joseph Stalin, who was General Secretary of the Communist Party from 1922 until his death, thirty years later. Like Napoleon, Stalin was a master driving the ropes behind the scenes. He formed a secret police, the NKVD (later the KGB), which behaved like the dogs of Napoleon, who ultimately prove their effectiveness by killing Leon Trotsky, represented in Snowball, and one of Stalin's greatest rivals.
At the same time, Stalin maintained control over the media, ordering propaganda from himself in which the children look at him with adoration. He used his political power basically to rewrite Russian history, giving himself a much more important role in the 1917 Revolution than he really was, apart from self-designing himself and no one but himself, the responsibility for the victory of the Second World War. And look at this: Nikita Khrushchev, who was under Stalin's command and was the next Russian leader, remembered how, while Stalin became a giant of Russian history, he really wanted to be remembered for his modesty. Ha! Clear!
Just as Stalin uses the secret police to cling to power, Napoleon uses his dogs' attack to get rid of opposition to force, in the same way that he silences dissent and creates his own image through Squealer and his sheep One of the greatest parallels between Napoleon and Stalin has to do with the way the production in the Animal Farm plummets while Napoleon is in charge. He decides to fill the barns with sand to hide the poor harvest. This episode is an allusion of how Stalin dismantled agricultural production with his Five Year Plans (which began in 1928). When the plans resulted in a huge famine across Russia, Stalin did everything he could to hide it and show that Russia was doing better than before (visit our section on "Symbolism, imagery and allegories" for more details about the Plans Five-year.
Answer: It shows similarities with Stalin's Great Purge and reveals how dictators use fear to control people.
The book Animal Farm is a satire that criticizes the way communism was established in the Soviet Union. One of the most famous characteristics of this regime is the fact that dictators such as Stalin often used fear in order to control the people. One of the actions that caused the most fear was the questioning that the government often carried out, as this was often used as an excuse to send people to labor camps or to murder them. This is what is known as the "Great Purge." This mechanism is represented in the book by Napoleon's questioning of the pigs.

Douglass sets aside extra cash and disappears to New York City, where he weds Anna Murray, a free dark lady from Baltimore. They move to New Bedford, Massachusetts, where Douglass is in the end contracted as an instructor for the American Anti-Slavery Society.
Answer:
The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is a memoir which was written by Frederick Douglass, a man who was born into slavery but gained his freedom and used it to speak out against slavery and join the abolitionist movement. Douglass says that a slave is "shaped" from the moment they are born, slave owners cutting off and changing social bonds between the men and women so that they could be made into slaves. Douglass also makes note of the fact that the damage that is done in forcefully separating and destroying families is irreparable. This narrative showed all too clearly how damaging it is to be raised and forced into slavery, their families being killed and cut off. Similarly, this is also why slavery and education cannot co-exist. If slaves are educated, then they will have the means and willpower as well as the proper knowledge on how to overthrow their rulers.

Formal language and meticulous word choice impact a speaker's tone by potentially creating a superior, serious, or persuasive tone, each influencing how the audience perceives and reacts to the message conveyed.
Explanation:The effect of formal language and word choice on a speaker's tone can be quite significant. Formal language can convey a sense of professionalism or seriousness to the audience, affecting the perceived credibility and authority of the speaker. This can sometimes create a tone that is seen as superior if the language seems detached or overly formal. On the other hand, the right word choice can also help establish a serious tone when discussing important subjects, indicating the matter should be taken with gravity. Moreover, strategic word choice is essential for creating a persuasive tone, as it can be used to appeal to the audience's emotions and logic, helping to convincingly present an argument or narrative.

A sixth grader teacher take students on a field trip to the beach. One student finds several pebbles that have a rounded shape and are smooth to touch. What process most likely shaped these pebbles.
The pebbles probably went trough weathering or erosion.
Maybe I can answer the question a little better if you give me the answer choices. (if there are any)
Final answer:
The pebbles found at the beach have been shaped by weathering and erosion, where natural elements such as water and wind wear down rocks, smoothing and rounding them over time.
Explanation:
The pebbles that a student found at the beach with a rounded shape and smooth texture have most likely been shaped by the natural process known as weathering and erosion. This occurs when rocks and minerals are broken down by elements such as water, wind, and temperature changes. Over time, these elements abrade the surfaces of the rocks, which causes them to become rounded and smooth. As rocks are transported by rivers and waves, they collide and rub against each other and their rough edges are worn away, resulting in the well-rounded pebbles often found along shorelines. The process can be directly observed by the uniformity in shape and size of the grains or pebbles in certain locations, indicating they have been transported a considerable distance from their original source. This geological process is crucial for the formation of sedimentary rock, which is a type of rock formed from the accumulation of sediments.
