Last week, I took my dog Herald to the dog park. I took him off his leash, and like always, he ran around with glee and played with the other dogs. At one point, I saw him sniffing and licking at something by a tree, but I didn’t think anything of it . . . until I saw his vomit and diarrhea. I immediately rushed him to the vet, and what I discovered blew my mind. The veterinarian found two cigarette butts in his stomach. Because of an inconsiderate litterer, my poor dog was poisoned.
Litterbugs need to wake up and see what their careless actions are doing to the environment. Animals get poisoned, water supplies get polluted, people get fatally injured, and our world gets ugly.

There is absolutely no excuse for littering. If there isn’t a trash can nearby, just hang onto your trash until you see one. So what if there’s already a pile of litter there? Do you think adding to the pile helps? And for your information, no “biodegradable” object disappears anytime soon.

Explanation:

Editorials are argumentative in nature. They are usually published in journals or newspapers. They are written to address some issue which is either a recent news or an event. These texts are concise and to the point. They are not lengthy. Their main motive is to support a particular opinion on the issue.

In the given editorial, writer has given a lot of details on his personal experience. Instead of elaborating more on the problem, he has written details about his personal incident. Thus, relying too much on irrational personal opinion makes the editorial weak.

Which person expressed ideas most clearly in conflict with the action taken by Queen Elizabeth in this passage? A) Adam Smith B) Thomas Pitt C) James I D) Thomas Hobbes

Answers

Answer:

A

Explanation:

Adam Smith expressed ideas most clearly in conflict with the action taken by Queen Elizabeth in this passage.

John Locke is the person whose ideas conflicted with Queen Elizabeth's regal actions, advocating for a government based on the consent of the governed, a stark contrast to the monarchical rule of the era.

The person who expressed ideas most clearly in conflict with the action taken by Queen Elizabeth I was John Locke. Locke believed that all people are born free in a state of nature, and the government should exist only by their consent. This is in stark contrast to the actions of Queen Elizabeth and other monarchs of the time who often exercised their power without explicit consent from the governed.

The notion of government by consent was further solidified during the Glorious Revolution of 1688, which Locke's ideas influenced, leading to a constitutional monarchy where the monarch's powers were limited by Parliament and the people.

Manuel and Rosa have been married for nearly 30 years. Their youngest child left home six months ago. If they are typical, the quality of their marriage should _____. a. remain constant, no different from earlier years b. worsen because there are no children to act as buffers c. be tumultuous because they have grown apart over the years d. improve because they have more time to spend together

Answers

Answer:

d. improve because they have more time to spend together

Final answer:

The quality of Manuel and Rosa's marriage is most likely to improve because they have more time to spend together. This is a trend often observed in long-term relationships when the children leave home. However, many factors can influence a marriage's quality.

Explanation:

Based on social and psychological studies on long-term marriages, the quality of Manuel and Rosa's marriage should theoretically improve now that they have more time to spend together (option d). This is not a rule, but rather a common trend observed in several studies. Having a stable and strong marriage positively influences the well-being of both parties involved, and empty-nest syndrome can often lead to more quality time spent together, which could potentially enhance the relationship.

However, it's important to bear in mind that the reality is always much more complex, and their marital quality would also depend on a multitude of other factors such as their individual personalities, their relationship history, their communication and conflict resolution skills, among other factors.

The word choice should be precise, using technical or academic terms where appropriate, yet understandable within the context of the written piece.

Essence of formal writing includes coherence and conciseness; the writing should flow logically from one idea to the next, with transitions that connect paragraphs and sections meaningfully. Walt Whitman hoped to usher in a new American literary tradition. Explain how Whitman's subject matter and themes helped transition literature from Romanticism to Realism.

Answers

i found this on the web lol hope it helps

Today’s topic to discuss dealt with Walt Whitman, and the connections made between his works, particularly, Crossing Brooklyn Ferry, and the periods of Realism and Romanticism. The romantic period examines the dark side of human nature and deals with the unconscious. Whereas, the realistic period, focuses on a particular scenario that is common as well as prevalent within any society.  Also, Romanticism relates to the idea that everything is more individual, which is the very beginnings of what we call, psychology. The Civil War, which occurred in the 1800s, portrayed an American economy that became more based on the cities, and work based opportunities were reflected in urban life. During this time period, in Europe, the author, Victor Hugo, the writer of Les Miserables, began to slowly shift the scene and moved towards Realism. A perfect example would be Washington Square, because it is about a timid woman that could be seduced by a handsome man. The realistic part of this novel is the fact that Henry James, the author of Washington Square, depicts real life.

Walt Whitman’s poem, Crossing Brooklyn Ferry, doesn’t only discuss the journey people take everyday by means of the ferry, but takes the experience, and give his own unique perspective. He talks about how it relates him to future generations because in a way we are all related. We are all one, and we are all having this big common experience. The commonality of humanity is exemplified through the people riding the ferry everyday, enabling Walt to ennoble the experience. The tone when describing this experience is pleasant, and he uses repetitive words to say that the experience is beautiful.

During the 1860’s in the U.S, the Civil War happens, and the society as a whole as a result of the war, is quite confused because of the emancipation of slavery. The economy has to be reworked because it was heavily based on slavery and these once enslaved individuals, now go to the north to look for jobs. This imagined grace in the South suddenly, goes away, and the people who want to stay and work the land have to get a hold of it. The industrial aspect of the United States consists of: factories, mechanized labor, and the farm equipment is more sophisticated. Community is based on the urban capitalist system. The fact that these men and women who are now not oppressed anymore visiting the city and seeing big factories is quite cool and awesome to think about. Whitman elevates it in his poetry and at the same time he is creating imagery that is the equivalence of the beauty of the farmland. His poetry creates an idealized image of America that is made by the working person. I was surprised to find out that Walt is a gay man. But, he is a very big guy with an extraordinary face, representing both realism and idealism.

Whitman’s poetry, image, and idealism are larger than life; he is a very ecstatic man. When people started talking about the idea of homosexuality, Walt was represented as a quandary. He couldn’t be open about his sexuality, so Mr. Whitman put it in his poetry. In Crossing Brooklyn Ferry, he is symbolically addressing people on the ferry, (close distant), and also talks of future riders and clouds of the west (far distance). As one can see, there is a two-pronged perspective, which brings depth. With his words, he is creating a double landscape and by using repetition it makes his ideas very powerful and personal. After we finished discussing Walt Whitman’s life and Crossing Brooklyn Ferry, we heard a song by, Bob Dylan called, “Hard Rains Are A-Falling,” and through the repetition of sounds, I was able to draw a distinct connection with this song to Walt Whitman’s work. I am starting to develop a liking for poetry, and I’m looking forward to studying it more and more.

Answer:

Explanation:

Walt Whitman has always been known for his story telling. Within the romanticism area, people wrote about how was the feeling of being a human, the human nature and how people were dealing with their own consciousness. Walt Whitman took some romantic traits in his work and added the realistic side of it. His story telling begun to be more and more relatable to our daily life. While romanticism centered in one individual, realism talked about various individuals. In conclusion, we could say that Walt Whitman was smart enough to grab one genre of writing and combine it with other genre that was becoming popular; and that is how it transitioned from romanticism to realism.

Since it is a fiction it is made to be interesting for the younger ones and those sources that can be found in historical fiction are often secondary sources, but they can also be primary sources too.

Answer:

C. To entertain

Explanation:

In historical fiction, we know that the facts are altered in order to fit the plot, therefore A is incorrect. (Don't want to inform people that something happened that didn't).

B is incorrect, for similar reasons to a, why persuade someone about false events,

D is incorrect, as it is based in past eras, not exactly the most inspiring to us modern people.
