How many moles of CO2 could fit in a 475 mL bag a -22° C and 855 mmHg?

Answers

Answer:

The amount of moles of CO₂ is 0.026 moles

Explanation:

An ideal gas is a theoretical gas that is considered to be composed of point particles that move randomly and do not interact with each other. Gases in general are ideal when they are at high temperatures and low pressures.

The equation known as the ideal gas equation explains the relationship between the four variables P (Pressure), V (Volume), T (Temperature) and n (Amount of substance). The ideal gas law is expressed mathematically as:

P*V = n*R*T

where P represents the pressure of the gas, V its volume, n the number of moles of gas (which must remain constant), R the constant of the gases and T the temperature of the gas.

In this case:

P= 855 mmHgV= 475 mL= 0.475 Ln= ?R= 62.36367 [tex]\frac{mmHg*L}{mol*K}[/tex]T= -22°C= 251 °K

Replacing:

855 mmHg*0.475 L=n*62.36367 [tex]\frac{mmHg*L}{mol*K}[/tex] *251 °K

Solving:

[tex]n=\frac{855 mmHg*0.475 L}{62.36367 \frac{mmHg*L}{mol*K} *251 K}[/tex]

n= 0.026 moles

The amount of moles of CO₂ is 0.026 moles

3. total molar mass for carbon atoms: 12.01 g

4. total molar mass for oxygen atoms: 48.00 g

5. hydrogen percent composition: 3.3%

6. oxygen percent composition: 77.4%

Explanation:

1. 1.01+1.01+12.01+16.00+16.00+16.00= 62.03

2. 1.01×2= 2.02

3. 12.01×1= 12.01

4. 16.00×3= 48.00

5. (2.02/62.03)×100= 3.3%

6. (48.00/62.03)×100= 77.4%

Final answer:

The molar mass of H2CO3 is 62.03 g/mol. The hydrogen percent composition in H2CO3 is 3.25% and the oxygen percent composition is 77.36%.

Explanation:

The molar mass of H2CO3 can be calculated by adding the molar masses of hydrogen (H), carbon (C), and oxygen (O) in the compound. The molar mass of hydrogen is 1.008 g/mol, the molar mass of carbon is 12.01 g/mol, and the molar mass of oxygen is 16.00 g/mol. Therefore, the molar mass of H2CO3 is: (2 x 1.008) + 12.01 + (3 x 16.00) = 62.03 g/mol.

The total molar mass for hydrogen atoms in H2CO3 is 2 x 1.008 = 2.016 g/mol.

The total molar mass for carbon atoms in H2CO3 is 12.01 g/mol.

The total molar mass for oxygen atoms in H2CO3 is 3 x 16.00 = 48.00 g/mol.

The hydrogen percent composition in H2CO3 can be calculated by dividing the molar mass of hydrogen by the molar mass of H2CO3 and multiplying by 100. Therefore, the hydrogen percent composition in H2CO3 is: (2.016 / 62.03) x 100 = 3.25%.

The oxygen percent composition in H2CO3 can be calculated by dividing the molar mass of oxygen by the molar mass of H2CO3 and multiplying by 100. Therefore, the oxygen percent composition in H2CO3 is: (48.00 / 62.03) x 100 = 77.36%.

What is the greatest amount of ammonia (NH3) in moles that can be made with 4.7 mol N2 and 6.9 mol H2? Which reactant is limiting ? How many moles of excess reactant will be left after the reaction ?

Answers

Answer:

A. H2 is the limiting reactant.

B. The greatest mole of NH3 produced is 4.6 moles

C. The excess reactant is N2 and the leftover mole is 2.4 moles

Explanation:

The balanced equation for the reaction is given below:

N2 + 3H2 —> 2NH3

To obtain the greatest amount of NH3 that can be formed from the reaction of 4.7 mol of N2 and 6.9 mol of H2, we must first determine the limiting reactant.

A. Determination of the limiting reactant.

This is illustrated below:

From the balanced equation above,

1 mole of N2 reacted with 3 moles of H2.

Therefore, 4.7 moles of N2 will react with = 4.7 x 3 = 14.1 moles of H2.

We can see from the calculations made above, that it will take a higher amount i.e 14.1 moles of H2 than 6.9 moles given to react with 4.7 moles of N2.

Therefore, H2 is the limiting reactant and N2 is the excess reactant.

B. Determination of the greatest amount of NH3 from the reaction.

The limiting reactant is always used to obtain the maximum yield of any reaction as all of it is used in the reaction. The limiting reactant for the above reaction is H2 and the greatest amount of NH3 is obtained as follow:

From the balanced equation above,

3 moles of H2 reacted to produce 2 moles of NH3.

Therefore, 6.9 moles of H2 will react to produce = (6.9 x 2)/3 = 4.6 moles of NH3.

The greatest amount of NH3 produced is 4.6 moles

C. Determination of the moles of excess reactant that is leftover after the reaction.

This is illustrated below:

From the balanced equation above,

1 mole of N2 reacted with 3 moles of H2.

Therefore, Xmol of N2 will react with 6.9 moles of H2 i.e

Xmol of N2 = 6.9/3

Xmol of N2 = 2.3 moles

Therefore, 2.3 moles N2 reacted

The leftover mole of N2 is obtained as follow:

Mole of N2 given = 4.7 moles

Mole of N2 that react = 2.3 moles

Leftover mole of N2 =.?

Leftover mole of N2 = (Mole of N2 given) – (Mole of N2 that react)

Leftover mole of N2 = 4.7 – 2.3

Leftover mole of N2 = 2.4 moles

How many different elements are there in the formula AgNO3

Answers

Answer:

3 different elements

Explanation:

There are 3 different elements in silver nitrate (AgNO3). It also contains 5 atoms. Silver (1 atom), Nitrogen (1) and Oxygen (3). Nitrogen and Oxygen together to form an ion called nitrate (NO3). The ionic form of silver (Ag+) combines with Nitrate (NO3) to form silver nitrate (AgNO3).

Final answer:

Silver nitrate, or [tex]AgNO_3[/tex], consists of three different elements: silver (Ag), nitrogen (N), and oxygen (O). These elements combine uniquely, with one silver atom, one nitrogen atom, and three oxygen atoms, to form a compound that is commonly involved in ionic reactions in stoichiometry.

Explanation:

The formula [tex]AgNO_3[/tex] represents silver nitrate, which is a compound composed of three different elements. These elements are silver (Ag), nitrogen (N), and oxygen (O). In the formula, Ag represents a single atom of silver, N represents a single atom of nitrogen, and the subscript '3' after the letter O indicates that there are three atoms of oxygen involved in the compound.

When exploring chemical reactions involving silver nitrate, it's important to recognize its role in reaction stoichiometry and the resulting products. For example, when silver nitrate reacts with sodium carbonate ([tex]Na_{2}CO_3[/tex]), the resulting products are sodium nitrate and silver carbonate. This reaction can be written as: [tex]Na_{2}CO_3[/tex](aq) + [tex]2AgNO_3[/tex](aq) → [tex]2NaNO_3[/tex](aq) + [tex]Ag_{2}CO_{3[/tex](s), where 'aq' stands for aqueous solution and 's' for a solid. This illustrates the exchange of ions between the reactants to form the products, a common theme in chemical reactions involving ionic compounds like [tex]AgNO_{3[/tex].

Understanding the fundamentals of such reactions, including the role of each element and their combinations, significantly aids in comprehending overall chemical processes and the stoichiometry of reactions. In the case of [tex]AgNO_3[/tex], each formula unit contributes one silver ion ([tex]Ag+[/tex]), one nitrate ion ([tex]NO_3-[/tex]), and hence offers a gateway to analyzing various chemical equations where silver nitrate is involved.

A gas has experienced a small increase in volume but has maintained the same pressure and number of moles. According to the ideal gas law, how has the temperature of the gas changed? It has increased two times. It has increased slightly. It has decreased slightly. It has stayed the same.

Answers

Answer:

Imagine filling a rigid container attached to a pressure gauge with gas and then sealing the container so that no gas may escape. If the container is cooled, the gas inside likewise gets colder and its pressure is observed to decrease. Since the container is rigid and tightly sealed, both the volume and number of moles of gas remain constant. If we heat the sphere, the gas inside gets hotter and the pressure increases. This relationship between temperature and pressure is observed for any sample of gas confined to a constant volume. An example of experimental pressure-temperature data is shown for a sample of air under these conditions in Figure 3. We find that temperature and pressure are linearly related, and if the temperature is on the kelvin scale, then P and T are directly proportional (again, when volume and moles of gas are held constant); if the temperature on the kelvin scale increases by a certain factor, the gas pressure increases by the same factor.

In most usual conditions (for instance at standard temperature and pressure), most real gases behave qualitatively like an ideal gas. Many gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, noble gases, and some heavier gases like carbon dioxide can be treated like ideal gases within reasonable tolerances.

According to the ideal gas law, the temperature has increased slightly. Hence option b is correct.

What is ideal gas law?

Ideal gas law is defined as the sum of the absolute temperature of the gas and the universal gas constant is equal to the product of the pressure and volume of one gram of an ideal gas. For low temperature, high density, and extremely high pressures, ideal gas law is inapplicable since molecular size and intermolecular forces are important non these circumstances. For heavy gases and gases with significant intermolecular forces, the ideal gas law does not apply.

The number of particles is proportional to the volume at constant temperature and pressure. Raising the average force that each particle applies to the surface is another method for maintaining pressure as the volume expands. When the temperature rises, this occurs.

Thus, according to the ideal gas law, the temperature has increased slightly. Hence option b is correct.

When the shuttle returned to Earth it landed at a speed of approximately 354 km/hr or 220 mi/hr, about 20 times the landing speed of a commercial aircraft. What accounts for the shuttle's speed upon landing?

A)
Earth's atmosphere

B)
initial thrust of take-off

C)
angle of approach upon landing

D)
gravitational potential energy

Answers

Answer:

A) Earth's atmosphere

B) initial thrust of take-off

C) angle of approach upon landing

D) gravitational potential energy

So it would be D. Gravitational potential energy As the shuttle prepares to return to Earth it reduces its speed so that gravity pulls it out of its orbit and toward Earth. As it approaches the earth the gravitational potential energy is converted to kinetic energy. The drag of Earth's atmosphere slows the shuttle's descent and causes some kinetic energy to convert to heat energy.

Explanation:

A couple of things, if the shuttle burned all of it's fuel before entering Earth's atmosphere then that means that the shuttle was accelerating towards Earth until it ran out of fuel. At that point, there is little to no air resistance (friction) by the lack of an atmosphere so it keeps accelerating due to Earth's gravitational force. The closer the shuttle gets to Earth the stronger the gravitational pull the shuttle experiences.

Note that, once the shuttle reaches Earth's atmosphere it will cause significant amount of friction and thus will cause the shuttle to slow down.
